Exploring New Material Possibilities at VIVE Wheels
At VIVE Wheels, we believe the development of a better wheel begins long before the manufacturing process. It starts with the materials themselves.
As part of our ongoing material research, VIVE is exploring a new high-magnesium aluminum alloy system, investigating magnesium compositions ranging from 8% to 18%. This research aims to better understand how changes in alloy composition and processing conditions may influence material properties and future wheel applications.
Exploring the Potential of High-Magnesium Alloys
Traditional aluminum alloys have long played an important role in wheel manufacturing, offering a practical balance of weight, strength, and manufacturability.
Our current research takes a different approach by examining aluminum alloys with significantly higher magnesium content.
The objective is to explore opportunities for material development while evaluating the challenges that come with new alloy compositions, including processing behavior, structural characteristics, and manufacturing feasibility.
From Material Research to Engineering Validation
Developing a new alloy requires more than adjusting its chemical composition.
Our current work includes investigating homogenization temperatures and deformation temperatures, two important factors in understanding how the material behaves during processing.
These early-stage experiments will help guide further evaluation and determine whether the material warrants additional development for wheel applications.
A Commitment to Continuous Development
This research remains in the experimental stage. No final material formulation or performance claims have been established, and further testing will be necessary before any potential production application.
For VIVE, innovation is not simply about introducing something new. It is about understanding the materials, processes, and engineering decisions that shape the products we create.
Better wheels begin with better questions. And we intend to keep asking them.
